Environmental technologies for pollution prevention and control - This research line is mainly devoted to the study of the various aspects of environmental quality and to the development of the proper technologies (physical, chemical and biological) for pollution control, taking advantage of experimental activities at lab or pilot scale. The research line is subdivided into three research groups, corresponding to the three main environmental topics, namely:

- Air pollution and gaseous effluent treatment technologies
Meteorological and air quality data modelling; studies on PM10-2.5-1 and related BAT; conventional/trace pollutants control and health risk evaluation; mass-balance/residues-partitioning of trace pollutants; energy recovery from waste

- Water quality management and treatment technologies
Surface water quality; membrane bioreactors (MBR); wastewater reclamation/reuse; disinfection; biosensors for biological-processes monitoring; EMS applied to Water Services; co-digestion of liquid wastes

- Soil pollution and remediation technologies
Pollutants transport/fate in subsoil and groundwater; multi-dimensional, multi-phase and multi-component models and risk analysis; ex situ and in situ treatments; solid/slurry-phase biological systems for PAHs removal; treatment of contaminated sediments (PAH, PCB, TPH); PAH thermal desorption; physical/chemical soil washing tests
